Job Title: Director of Events
Classification: Full-time, Exempt
Reports to: Executive Director
Compensation: $52,000 – 57,000 base salary plus commission compensation plan
Position Overview
The Director of Events manages the Figge Art Museum’s rental and special events program from initial inquiry through execution and follow-up. This includes lead generation, sales, contracts, client relations, vendor coordination, on-site management, and evaluation. The Director also oversees catering and bar operations for all events, ensuring compliance with licensing requirements and museum standards. In addition, this role partners with staff on internal donor, fundraising, and special events that highlight the museum as a premier destination for cultural and culinary experiences. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to outstanding client service. Evening and weekend work is required as scheduled.
Key Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to event inquiries and conduct site tours.
  • Manage all rental contracts, fees, and administrative details.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute rental events, ensuring a high-quality client experience.
  • Serve as primary liaison with clients, caterers, and vendors.
  • Oversee outside caterers in an open catering system, ensuring they are licensed, have appropriate insurance, meet Figge standards, and leave the facility in proper condition after events.
  • Manage bar operations, including bar staff scheduling, inventory, and compliance with the museum’s liquor license.
  • Maintain and oversee event calendars and internal communications.
  • Supervise event setup, execution, and teardown.
  • Coordinate with vendors and staff to ensure compliance with museum protocols and availability of necessary resources.
  • Collaborate across departments to support internal fundraising, donor, and member events.
  • Develop strategies to grow event rentals, rebuild post-pandemic business, and identify new partnerships and opportunities.
  • Partner with Marketing to recommend and support rental marketing strategies, including participation in expos and maintaining up-to-date web content.
  • Review pricing strategy with CFO to maximize revenue and ensure competitive rental rates.
  • Collaborate with Development, Marketing, and partners to create engaging dining and culinary experiences.
  • Provide post-event follow-up, including surveys and strategies to encourage repeat business.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of event planning and project management experience, including catering large events.
  • Experience managing bar operations or working with liquor licensing preferred.
  • Sales experience with direct solicitation preferred.
  • Event or Wedding Certification preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups, including clients, donors, volunteers, and staff at all levels.
  • Proven ability to multitask, problem-solve, remain calm under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications, Planning Pod, and POS system.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Work Environment
  • Primarily office-based, with some events held outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Some tasks may be performed remotely with prior approval.
  • Role requires frequent communication by phone, email, and in person.
  • Position involves sitting or standing for extended periods and requires the ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
  • Some local travel required.
